Cayman Islands - Renting a Car in Grand Cayman

You must be a good driver if you plan to rent a car in Grand Cayman. However, if you visit this island regularly, you will have no problems driving in the traffic.

Sometimes tour buses are crowded and noisy, which is unfortunate, because you might want to view the Cayman Islands in peace. Relaxing is tough, especially when a kid runs up and down the bus, screaming and playing, preventing you from hearing the tour guide. If you want to enjoy your vacation on your own time, you should consider renting a car to tour the Cayman Islands. In a rental car, you get a cool air conditioner, comfortable sits, your own radio, and that new car smell. Renting a car is a great way to get around; however, there are a few minor issues, but if you are a good driver, they will not be a problem.

After you rent your car, the challenge begins, because once you drive out of the dealership’s driveway, you will notice that the island has some tricky traffic patterns. If you are only use to traffic that goes up and down, you will be surprised when you see how the traffic runs in Grand Cayman. An experienced driver is needed on these highways, generally someone who is not afraid, and does not panic. The traffic goes in all sorts of directions, even on the wrong side of the road, so be prepared for this.

It helps to rent a car with a steering wheel on the left side because it will help you a lot. One good thing about the traffic is that it moves slowly, so you will have time to make decisions when you are trying to enter a lane. Changing lanes on the highway is quite easy because the drivers are very nice and friendly; if you need to turn into a lane, they will let you do so. They usually say thank you to one another by honking their horns or waving; you should use their polite methods as well.

Once have your car, you may wonder where the best places to drive are; there are some areas worth visiting, and one place you should avoid. If you like looking at buildings while you are driving, you should visit West Bay Roca because there are many hotels and condominium in that area.

Some tourists like to drive up and down the streets just to see every building, so this place is worth checking out. If you prefer a tropical view, you should drive to East End and park your car; this area only has a few tourists, so it is a great place to relax with your family. You do not want to drive to the port because there are tourists and locals everywhere, and you will not be able to drive your car over 10 mph. If you want to go to the port to sight see, you should defiantly just walk.

Renting a car is a good idea, just remember, driving well in the Caymans Islands takes time, but if you visit the islands every year, before you know it, you will be driving like a pro
